TOP 10 STEPS TO AVOID LANDING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF AN IRS AUDIT!

No one wants to go through an audit by the Internal Revenue Service.  However, by taking these 10 steps, taxpayers and their attorneys can avoid some of the greatest mistakes and might prevent larger tax liabilities, longer audits, and even criminal prosecution.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

David J. Warner is a tax attorney with Holtz, Slavett & Drabkin with over 10 years of experience practicing tax law. David practices in all aspects of tax controversy including tax audits, collection defense, and litigation in the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court, and the Court of Federal Claims. He represents taxpayers in cases involving income tax, estate tax, gift tax, employment tax, collection issues, innocent spouse, penalties, and bankruptcy tax issues. David also represents taxpayers before the California Franchise Tax Board, Department of Fee and Tax Administration (formerly State Board of Equalization), and Employment Development Department. He has particular expertise in tax matters involving individuals and small businesses, the examination of partnerships and S corporations, and offshore tax compliance issues, including the Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR), civil fraud, and offshore information return penalties.

Before joining Holtz, Slavett & Drabkin, David was a Senior Trial Attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, Small Business Self-Employed Division, for 9 years.  In this role, he litigated over 500 cases before the U.S. Tax Court, including the most complex cases with up to $25 million in taxes and penalties at issue.  David also was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola Law School, University of California Irvine School of Law, and Chapman University Fowler School of Law, where he taught courses on tax practice and procedure, partnership tax, bankruptcy tax, and corporate tax.
