Please join us for our West Coast monthly meeting as we continue gathering as Bruins in business from Inland Empire, Ventura County, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Portland, and Seattle!

Bruins@LAVA LA's Venture Association

Do you realize that it's likely much of what you think you know about venture capital is wrong? The Los Angeles Venture Association, known as LAVA, has a 37 year history representing the early stage startup space in LA and Bruins have been a big part of that history. Today, LAVA is in the midst of a rebranding which includes a new focus on affinity groups within the membership and the ecosystem at large. Bruins@LAVA is one of them. More importantly, LAVA's new executive director wants to make sure you aren't missing out on LA's venture boom. LA's venture ecosystem is exploding in a good way, and impacting nearly every industry in LA.

A promoter of the #LongLA movement, Darren Eng will help us understand how we all have the potential to be part of venture growth, especially in LA. Especially now. Especially Bruins. Join us to hear from Darren and network up and down the coast with fellow West Coast Bruins!!

Darren established leadership presence in LA’s venture ecosystem during the dot-com era overseeing the rapid expansion of VIC, LA’s dominant association for the venture-backed “new media” industry. After two decades of executive and entrepreneurial leadership, Darren now leads the Los Angeles Venture Association (LAVA) & CozDev, LLC.

As executive director, Darren rebranded and re-animated LAVA to a refreshed vision based on its investor-focused roots via fresh programs, expanded communities & new advisory boards of VCs, family offices, fund managers, and angel investors.  As cofounder and managing partner of CozDev, he creates high-return, lower-risk, tax-free capital gains investment funds by combining property ownership with ownership of green-industry tenants while meeting federal Opportunity Zone social impact goals.

Previously, Darren gained invaluable experience as CEO, chairman and investor in Greenbelt Resources Corporation, and as executive director of multiple real estate development associations. Before VIC, he held management roles in the environmental sector, including directing teams of scientists & engineers at AECOM, the world’s premier infrastructure firm.

Darren graduated from Yale with a degree in environmental biology, is a member of the California Club, a proud father and a two-time Santa Monica YMCA Coach of the Year.

Time will be set aside for attendee introductions, so using the video feature throughout the meeting is encouraged. Please watch the training and read the documents on the BP ZOOM Resource Center, so you are prepared for the meeting.
