Please join us on October 22, 2019 for a presentation by Kelly Colopy, the Director of the Health and Human Services Department for the City of Long Beach.

By 2035, the number of people over the age of 65 will be the same as the number under age 18.  The City of Long Beach is working to ensure that older adults living in our city currently and in the future have what they need to remain as healthy and independent as possible as they age.  Toward that goal, the City launched a revised strategic plan in 2015 that has served as a guide for future work. In 2017, at the direction of the Mayor, Long Beach joined AARP’s Age-Friendly Communities Network.  With the launch of this initiative, the Department of Health and Human Services was able to hire a Program Manager for the new Healthy Aging Center focused on designing more collaborative and connected systems for older adults to ensure people can access the services they need from providers across the City.  This session will share data on the older adult population in Long Beach, identified strengths and needs, services available, as well as our next steps for our Healthy Aging Center and Age-Friendly City efforts.
