Because UCLA is transitioning to online classes effective March 11th to April 10th due to the coronavirus, all events at the James West Alumni Center have been canceled during this time period. Join BP Lawyers’ Affinity Group for a riveting presentation on Preparing for Litigation: What you need to know about cloud computing and mobile devices.

Miguel Ortiz and James Vaughn from iDiscovery Solutions will be discussing unique issues specific to cloud computing and mobile devices as they pertain to litigation. This presentation includes topics such as collecting data from multiple sources and how to defensibly respond to discovery requests. Issues of data integrity and spoliation will be covered as well as best practices when it comes to collecting Electronically Stored Information (ESI).

About the Speakers

Miguel Ortiz, Director of Business Development at iDiscovery Solutions (iDS) and BP Member, is a member of the Association of Certified eDiscovery Specialists (ACEDS) and has worked for eDiscovery software companies as well as service providers before joining iDS. He is a member of the California State Bar and practiced civil litigation in state and federal courts. He served in the California Air National Guard, where he gained valuable experience in Computer Networking and Cryptographic systems. Mr. Ortiz earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his J.D. from Loyola Law School.

James D. Vaughn, a Managing Director at iDiscovery Solutions (iDS), is a court-recognized expert who has given testimony in nearly 90 cases involving topics such as evidence preservation, documentation of events, and computer forensic methodologies and procedures.  In addition to being an EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE), Mr. Vaughn is certified by the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS) as a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE).  He has 16 years law enforcement experience, has co-developed computer forensic courses for the California Department of Justice, and has been involved in high profile cases throughout his career.

This event qualifies for MCLE credit.

Parking is $13 and can be paid by any pay-by-space kiosk on the top level of Structure 8.
