Join BP Beverly Hills via Zoom on May 13th for a riveting discussion with BP Members Barbara Schwartz and Ira Steinberg on on relief for qualified plan/IRA participants under the CARES Act, and the legal impact of COVID-19 on California businesses About the Speakers Barbara Schwartz is a retirement plan consultant – she advises clients large and small on how best to maximize owners’ benefits from their qualified retirement plans, gain large tax deductions, and minimize overall costs. In the past, she was a Principal with both KPMG and Arthur Andersen, and has been an independent consulting actuary for over 20 years. Barbara also advises clients on how to keep their retirement plans compliant, and specializes in correcting administrative errors, having negotiated with both IRS and Department of Labor representatives to reduce huge potential penalties and avoid loss of tax benefits. She is a frequent speaker and advisor on plan design and compliance. Her clients include professional service firms, non profits, manufacturing entities, real estate professionals, and her advice is sought by many Employers, ranging from huge utility companies to solo practitioners. She earned her BA from Vassar College and her MBA in finance from UCLA. She is a Member of the American Academy of actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA. She and her husband live and work in Marina del Rey with their son and two dogs. They enjoy travel and entertaining. Ira Steinberg is Counsel in Greenberg Glusker’s Litigation Group focused on complex commercial and business litigation, specifically, entertainment, media, real estate, corporate, and insurance disputes. He assists clients in navigating all stages of litigation, including pre-litigation counseling, trial, alternative dispute resolution, and appeal. He also has significant experience in high profile matters and managing media scrutiny of litigation. Ira has extensive experience working with clients, typically senior executives or investors, involved in business relationships that have broken down either near, or past, the point of litigation. Ira’s recent matters include the termination of a high-profile CEO, business partnerships with significant internal disputes, and complex disputes between investors and the enterprises they’re funding. Ira earned his B.A. at the University of Connecticut and his J.D. at UCLA School of Law. Prior to practicing law Ira worked for several elected officials in the Los Angeles area. He is a member of the board of Golden Years Senior Apartments, a housing complex for low income seniors. In addition to his professional pursuits, Ira is a licensed pilot for gliders and single engine aircraft and is certified for aerobatics. He is a multiple marathoner and earned a Spartan Race Trifecta.
