Metro D Line (Purple) Extension Subway Project

Meet the speakers: Mindy Lake and Marlon Walker

Mindy Lake, Principal Construction Relations Officer

Mindy has been working for Metro as a Community Relations officer since 2014. She was initially assigned to D Line (Purple) Extension, Section 1. However, in 2017, Mindy was assigned to Section 2, which includes two stations: one in Beverly Hills and the other in Century City. Currently, Mindy oversees community relations and outreach for both stations in Beverly Hills and the Constellation station in Century City.

Mindy Lake is a lifelong Angeleno. Having raised two children in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, Mindy was inspired to become involved with their schools and community improvement activism while they were still toddlers.

For more than 35 years, Mindy has developed collaborative and enduring relationships. She works closely with local and state government, law enforcement agencies, charitable organizations and most importantly, community stakeholders. Prior to joining Metro, Mindy was a partner in a boutique marketing company, M2Mktg, working with small to medium size businesses, and non-profits.

Marlon Walker, Community Relations Manager

Marlon joined Metro in 2017 and was assigned to the D Line subway project as assistant manager for all three sections. Marlon has remained on the project since that time, having served in his role as manager since 2020.

Prior to joining Metro, Marlon was employed at Southern California Edison (SCE). He began his 12-year tenure at SCE first working in the public relations department before eventually moving on to become a senior project manager in Local Public Affairs.

Marlon was born in Boston, but raised in the southeast, South Carolina and Georgia. Marlon moved to southern California after serving four years in the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine service. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations from Long Beach State University.
