Meet the speaker:
Mark Kozek
Mark Kozek is a Professor of Mathematics at Whittier College. His mathematical research is in number theory, and his interdisciplinary interests include mathematics in literature, cinema, and popular culture, history of cryptography, and soccer analytics. In addition to his research articles on mathematics, he co-edited the book Mathematical Themes in a First-Year Seminar (Mathematical Association of America Press, 2021), and he is finishing Mathematics and Storytelling: Stories in Print and on Screen Inspired by Mathematics supported by a Sloan Foundation Grant for Public Understanding. He served as the department chair of Whittier College’s Department of Mathematics & Computer Science (2015-2018) and currently sits on the selection committee for the Mathematical Association of America’s Allendoerfer Award for outstanding expository articles published in Mathematics Magazine.
