Meet the speaker:
James Batley
Associate Athletics Director, Development
James Batley joined UCLA Athletics as Associate Athletics Director, Development in 2025. He brings 15 years of experience in athletic fundraising and engagement. In this role, Batley is responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive program to engage alumni, parents, friends, community members, and business and civic leaders, to achieve the philanthropic goals of the university.
He comes to UCLA from LMU, where he served through 2025 and was responsible for record-breaking philanthropic commitments in fiscal years 2021 and 2022. He closed the first $1 million sport-specific endowed scholarship in program history and assisted with renovations on nine athletics facility projects, including a $15 million renovation of Gersten Pavilion. Prior to this, he held fundraising roles at San Diego State University and the University of Oregon.
Batley, a former student-athlete, swam for the University of Kentucky and competed internationally with the Great Britain junior team. He earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Kentucky. In his free time, Batley enjoys connecting with friends on the golf course, surfing, and spending time with his wife, Kelly, and daughters, Lily and Willow.
