Lital Gilad-Shaoulian

From building a billion-dollar book of business in global Tech to developing a drug that could impact over a billion patients, Lital Gilad-Shaoulian has taken one of the boldest career leaps imaginable.

Lital is the Founder and CEO of Purpose Bio, a UCLA spinout developing synthetic biology–based therapeutics for Fatty Liver Disease, Obesity, and High Cholesterol. The combined market exceeds $200 billion annually and is one of the largest and fastest-growing health crises worldwide. 

Purpose Bio breakthrough lies in targeting disease in a way no drug has ever done: engineering oral - novel enzymes that act locally in the gut, never entering the bloodstream, making them inherently safer than traditional drugs. These therapies have the potential to serve as alternatives to statins, GLP-1s, and other current treatments—or to be combined with them to boost both efficacy and safety.

With zero scientific background, she made the audacious move from a decorated career as a high-tech executive into biotech entrepreneurship—turning breakthrough UCLA science into a company that the university named it among its Top 4 Most Promising Life Science Startups in 2025.
