BP’s Healthcare Panel: Preparing for Open Enrollment and Beyond: Deciphering Medical Plan Designs, Understanding Medicare Coverage and Exploring Life Insurance Options
Meet the speakers:
Joe Kim | Barbara Oberman | Stephanie Gordon
Joe Kim is BP’s President and Senior Certified Business Advisor with Insperity, the nation’s founding Professional Employer Organization(PEO). Joe consults business owners in reducing day to day HR risk, increasing people development, and containing HR related costs. He will review medical plan designs and guide how to best choose the appropriate plan for you and your family. Most people are over insured and are spending more money than they should. Low vs high deductible, FSA/HSA, max out of pocket, coinsurance: what does all this mean and how does one determine the right plan? This will be a hands-on discussion, so come with your current or last medical renewal packet and/or Summary of Benefits and Coverages(SBCs) and we will learn together.
Barbara Oberman is a passionate business owner with two meaningful ventures: an employee benefits health insurance agency and Senior Living Solutions, where she helps families find the right assisted living community or in-home care for loved ones. Throughout the year she educates employees and individuals approaching age 65 on how to determine their best Medicare plan options. Barbara is an avid globe-trotter and the dedicated VP of Membership for Bruin Professionals. Barbara will provide an overview of Medicare basics and key 2027 updates to help you navigate coverage for yourself, aging parents, or transitioning employees. Whether you’re approaching 65, already enrolled, or advising clients, you’ll gain practical insights just in time for the upcoming Annual Enrollment Period.

Stephanie Gordon, Senior Account Manager and licensed insurance agent with Higginbotham Financial, brings more than 15 years of experience in the insurance industry. In her presentation, Stephanie will discuss life and disability insurance benefits available during open enrollment along with options outside of employer provided coverage. Learn more about incorporating life insurance as part of your personal financial and estate planning, long term care coverage, and business insurance such as key person and buy/sell. Gain insight into the medical underwriting process and how working with an independent broker ensures that you receive tailored solutions that meet all your needs.
Stephanie joined Higginbotham Financial in 2018, where she works closely with her team to provide exceptional service to individual and corporate clients. Previously, she spent six years at Northwestern Mutual, leading and mentoring a diverse sales execution team and helping agents navigate underwriting and new business processes.
A proud UCLA graduate, Stephanie earned a B.A. in Sociology, cum laude, followed by a Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School. She remains active in her community through the Santa Monica Bar Association’s low-cost dispute resolution program. Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with family and friends and supporting UCLA and Los Angeles sports.
