Biofuels, batteries, and hydrogen: the road to decarbonization
New Member Spotlight Speaker:
Fernando Lopez

Fernando is a full time PhD student at UCLA through the department of chemistry and biochemistry. His research focuses on finding new ways to convert various waste streams to useful energy by studying electricity-producing bacteria. Fernando is passionate about translating lab-bench technology to a commercial scale. He recently co-founded a company, HYenergy, which looks to leverage three catalysts made in Prof. Yu Huang's lab to produce and use hydrogen. In his spare time Fernando loves spending time with his family, taking trips with his wife and his dog Turbo. He also loves playing golf, swimming, and eating his way around the city.
Fernando will introduce himself, talk a bit about his field of research, and talk about the clean energy landscape with batteries and hydrogen fuels.
Bagels & coffee will be provided.
