They are Called Children for a Reason: They Aren’t Done Cooking

Do you sometimes feel overloaded in your job and your life?  Have you felt completely stressed with too much on your plate?  Do you have more on your To-Do List than there are hours in the day? Do you have major commitments that compete for your time like work, home, family, friends, and the need for leisure?

Children experience those very same challenges, only their prefrontal cortex, the virtual assistant part of the brain where these challenges are managed, is only in the development stage.  They are not fully equipped to handle what is called “Executive Functioning” even though it is still expected of them.

What I do is provide parents with tools and strategies to teach their children these vital skills that transfer from home to school and life. I will be offering examples of what parents can do at home to reduce the chaos and bolster their children’s executive functioning growth.

Meet The Speaker:

As a certified parent educator and coach, Sari Goodman advises, educates, and supports parents in raising children, which is challenging even in the best of times. She has a BA in psychology (spending a lot of time in Franz Hall) and a Masters degree in Education, Sari has over 30 years experience working with parents through her role as a teacher and elementary school administrator, and concurrently as a parent advisor and parent education instructor. She spent a few years as an adjunct instructor at Mt. St. Mary’s College in the Department of Education and (way back when…) was a teacher and research assistant at the UCLA NPI (Neuropsychiatric Institute) Early Childhood Center. She was recently a guest on the podcast Diverse Thinking, Different Learning, Episode 66, where she spoke about the pressures parents are under in contemporary life and gave strategies for what they can do for support.

Time will be set aside for attendee introductions, so using the video feature throughout the meeting is encouraged. Please watch the training and read the documents on the BP ZOOM Resource Center, so you are prepared for the meeting.
