Guest speaker: Geoffrey Grode

Geoffrey Grode holds a BA from Harpur College and a PhD in English from the University of Texas-Austin. From 1978-2020 he worked as a story analyst (script reader), first as a freelancer, then as a member of the Story Analysts Guild. For 30 of those years he was based at Twentieth Century Fox. Geoff taught screenwriting at UCLA and the AFI for many years as well as an AFI seminar --The Business of Screenwriting-- in cities around the country. At various points in his career Geoff has been an English professor (Lawrence University) a journalist (The Washington Post Sunday Magazine) and a playwright ("Teeing Off"), which was performed at the Hudson Theatre in L.A.

 Geoff's talk will focus on his experiences as as a union reader. Topics covered will include how the reader functions in the studio system and the criteria by which screenplays are evaluated.
