Unlocking Hope: The Promise of Neuromodulation in Treating Neurological Conditions and Chronic Pain

Neuromodulation is a cutting-edge medical field that involves the targeted application of electrical or chemical stimuli to specific areas of the nervous system to modify neural activity and treat various neurological conditions and chronic pain. By using devices like Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) systems or Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) systems, neuromodulation aims to restore or alter neural function, providing relief to patients with conditions such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and chronic pain. This innovative field offers personalized solutions, as treatment parameters can be adjusted to cater to each patient's unique needs. Neuromodulation represents a promising avenue for improving the lives of individuals suffering from challenging neurological disorders and refractory pain conditions, offering new hope and improved quality of life.

Meet the Speaker:

Nick Kellerman

Nick is a Digital Product Manager at Boston Scientific in their Neuromodulation division. He graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a Bioengineering degree in 2019. Despite receiving an engineering degree, Nick has always been drawn to the intersection of technology, business, and people. In pursuit of exploring that intersection after UCLA, he joined Boston Scientific Neuromodulation as the inaugural member of their Leadership Rotational Program. Nick spent 2 years rotating between roles in medical device sales, product management, and clinical marketing in order to gain a diversity of experience within medical technology, primarily focused on Spinal Cord Stimulation to treat Chronic Pain.

In the years since then, he has led multiple medical device projects, submitted abstracts to major scientific conferences, and now focuses on developing digital health technology for chronic pain patients that uses artificial intelligence to better understand and treat their pain with spinal cord stimulation. Nick has won multiple awards at Boston Scientific including the annual Marketing Leadership and Marketing Teamwork awards.

In his spare time, Nick is the Director of Patient Outreach at the Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP) Foundation, a rare lung disease nonprofit partially based in LA. He can also be found playing pickup basketball around his home in Silverlake, finding any excuse to get outdoors or try new food, or spending time with his long-time girlfriend, cat, family, and friends.
